First off, Happy Holidays! Now to the important stuff. Here's each NFL matchup this weekend looked at BCS style:
Top games to watch high-lighted in Yellow, Stinkers in Gray.
Saturday 12/25, 7:30 PM EST:
#19 Dallas Cowboys @ #30 Arizona Cardinals: What a horrible Christmas Day game. I bet the NFL Network booked this game believing the Cowboys would be on their way to clinching a first round bye.
Sunday, 12/26, 1:00 PM EST
#1 New England Patriots @ #28 Buffalo Bills: Another stinker here. But, the Bills have been playing well in the second half, and the game is in Buffalo. This might be closer than the rankings would suggest it being.
#8 New York Jets @ #7 Chicago Bears: Great match-up here. Two weeks in a row the Jets take place in one of the weeks best game...on the road.
#4 Baltimore Ravens @ #23 Cleveland Browns: Another not-so-inspiring matchup but one that the Ravens need to win if they want to have any shot at a #2 seed in the AFC Playoffs.
#17 Tennessee Titanss @ #12 Kansas City Chiefs: Decent matchup here with big Playoff implications. Chiefs need to keep winning to beat out #9 San Diego Chargers in the AFC West, while a loss drops the Titans from playoff contention.
#22 San Francisco 49ers @ #21 St. Louis Rams: Who would have thought this horrible match-up with have a huge impact on the winner of an NFL Division (NFC West)?
#27 Detroit Lions @ #16 Miami Dolphins: Pride matchup here.
#24 Washington Redskins @ #14 Jacksonville Jaguars: Will Jacksonville continue to be exposed as they were last week against #13 Indianapolis Colts? They better hope not as this game is critical for their playoff hopes.
Sunday, 12/26, 4:00 EST
#13 Indianaplis Colts @ #18 Oakland Raiders: This match-up, while looking "blah" when noting the BCS rankings of each team; will end up being one of the better games of the week with it's huge playoff implications. Notice how I am typing that for many games? This is another reason why a playoff system is awesome, and should be adopted by the NCAA.
#20 Houston Texans @ #31 Denver Broncos: Another pride matchup, with the sideshow of Tim Tebow making it a possible watch.
#9 San Diego Chargers @ #29 Cincinatti Bengals: It looks like the Chargers have a "cake match-up" hwew to help them keep pressure on #12 Kansas City Chiefs here. Will they keep their late-season push on?
#10 New York Giants @ #11 Green Bay Packers: Because of the playoff implications here and the rankings, this is the Game of the Week. The Giants can lose and still make the tournament, but the Packers have no such luxury.
#26 Seattle Seahawks @ #15 Tampa Bay Buccannears: I'd say this is a "cake match-up" for the Bucs who need a win to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, but after losing to #27 Detroit Lions at home last week it can't be said.
Sunday Night
#25 Minnesota Vikings @ #3 Philadelphia Eagles: A win by the Eagles coupled with a loss by #10 New York Giants means an NFC East title for Michael Vick and the Gang. A home matchup against the biggest disappointment in the NFL (Minnesota), against a team who won't choke it away--like the Bucs...this would be a huge upset were the Vikings to pull it out.
Monday Night
#6 New Orleans Saints @ #2 Atlanta Falcons: Were it not for the fact that both of these teams will most likely make the playoffs this could be the Game of the Week. Be that as it may, both teams still have something to play for (seeding and home field advantage), and it does pair up two of the top ten teams, so this qualifies as one of the weeks top games.
So there ya have it. Some great match-ups, but more stinkers. But, it doesn't matter as we all know it will be another great week in the NFL--they all are. I can only hope I've added some pleasure to it with this BCS rankings.
