The link above is a recap of today’s game between the Minnesota Vikings and the Dallas Cowboys. As you probably know (but if you don’t you can read the article) the Cowboys lost this game and fell to an extremely disappointing 1-4.

Just a quick chart here to try and sum up what is wrong with the Cowboys.
Category | Statistic | NFL Rank
Yards per game | 400 | 2 | |
Yards allowed per game | 281.4 | 4
Third down efficiency | 45.59% | 4
Red Zone Scoring Percentage | 61.54% | 11
Turnover Margin per game | -1 | 30*
Penalties per game | 9.6 | 31 |
The Cowboys have one of the best offenses in the game to go along with one of the best defenses in the league, are great on third down (a stat that you can see that I love here), and are good at scoring when in the Red Zone. These parts of the game clearly aren’t the Cowboys problem.
Turnovers and penalties clearly are the main culprits in the Cowboys disappointing play.
Now I don’t know if you are of the opinion that Wade Phillips should be fired or not, and that’s not what I’m here to argue for or against. I’m doing this write up to show that the Cowboys need to look in the mirror when trying to figure out why they are three games under .500 right now.
The Cowboys’ season started with hopes of being the first team ever to play in a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Now, because they can’t “get out of their own way” it will be a struggle just to make the playoffs.
