The above link will take you to an article detailing how excited the Tennessee Titans are to have picked up Randy Moss, and how they believe he could be the “missing piece.”

Seven receptions, 225 yards, and three touchdowns. That’s the game Kenny Britt posted two weeks ago for the Titans in their 37-19 win over the Philadelphia Eagles. Who was the Titans quarterback that day? Kerry Collins. The same Kerry Collins that is not the starting quarterback of the Tennessee Titans. That role belongs to Vince Young.
Why do I point this out? Because if the Titans want to get the most out of Randy Moss for the remainder of the season Collins would have to be their starting QB. Let’s face it, Moss is a “go route” receiver if we’ve ever seen one; so, he would ideally fit best with a quarterback who likes to throw the ball more than 20 yards down field, right? Well take a look at the chart below showing us a comparison of Kerry Collins and Vince Young’s attempts of 20 or more yards the last time they each had a full season of snaps, and tell me which quarterback can get the most out of Moss:
Player | Season | Attempts | 20+ yds | Percent |
Young | 2006 | 357 | 51 | 14% |
Young | 2007 | 382 | 46 | 12% |
Collins | 2008 | 415 | 135 | 33% |
“Wow,” is all I have to say. I don’t even think I have to do anymore explaining to show how an offense run by Kerry Collins is a better fit for Randy Moss than one run by Vince Young. If the Titans are planning to use Moss to maximize his capabilities they must be planning a QB change that nobody knows of.
What does this mean? It means the Titans are looking forward to using Moss to open the field more for Chris Johnson and their running game more than actually throwing bombs to Randy Moss. And there’s nothing wrong with this. I actually think it’s a great idea and does improve the team. It just doesn’t mean the Titans are suddenly going to become this “bombs-away” throw-heavy unit than many teams become when they have Randy Moss.
Look forward to seeing a better team in Tennessee for the remainder of the season, just not one that will completely change its identity because of its’ newly-signed receiver.
